Two teens dead, four others injured in Vaughan rollover

A 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl are dead after a single-vehicle rollover in Vaughan on Saturday night.

York Regional Police said the incident — which also injured four other occupants in the car — happened on Teston Road near Kipling Avenue and Pine Valley Road at 9:19 p.m.

“When our officers got there they located the vehicle who left the roadway from Teston Road, west of Pine Valley Drive. There were six occupants in the vehicle that were trapped,” Const. Andy Pattenden told 680NEWS.

The 15 year old was pronounced dead at the scene while the the 16 year old succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The injuries sustained by the other occupants of the car range from serious to life-threatening. The injured are also teens, ranging in age from 15 to 18.

Duty Insp. Russ Bellman say speed and weather could have been factors in the crash.

“It’s a hilly, rural area and it’s something that we remind motorists (of) all the time — be aware of your surroundings, be aware it’s getting darker sooner, (and) wet roads, it’s just something you have to watch your speed.”

Police say the area — which has a posted speed limit of 60 km/h — is dark at night and there are no street lights.

Teston Road has been closed between Kipling Avenue and Pine Valley Drive and is expected to remain that way until late afternoon.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the crash to contact them.
