The brazen theft of a Christmas wreath has one Toronto homeowner reeling, not only for the boldness of the act but also what was stolen.
This is “the Grinch that stole the wreath off my door at 3 a.m.,” Sabrina Magyar posted on Facebook on Saturday.
Not only “was I surprised that anyone would anyone actually even do that … it was the principle behind it,” Magyar told CityNews.
The entire thing was captured on video. Magyar said she noticed the theft when she got up in the morning and her husband went to check their security cameras.
“He said, ‘you’re not going to believe this!’ I can’t believe we actually have it on tape … We didn’t get the security system for wreath-stealers,” she said.
The wreath was stolen 20 days before Christmas, from a home in the Yonge Street and Summerhill Avenue area. The thief is a well-dressed woman, bundled up for the cold in a sleek quilted coat and wearing a square messenger bag.
“She had a nice, expensive jacket on. That’s what’s really surprising,” Magyar said.

Unfortunately, this brazen wreath theft isn’t the only one caught on video in the GTA. According to the Brampton Guardian, a wreath was stolen from Komal Padda’s home in Brampton on Tuesday night. She captured surveillance cam video of a woman walking right up to her front door, removing a wreath and walking away.
“We’re such a giving family,” Padda told The Guardian. “If she had knocked on my door and asked for it, I probably would have given it to her.”
Magyar alleges the thief that took her wreath is a repeat offender. In a later post, she wrote that the woman can be seen leaving her property “and picking up a second wreath which is likely acquired from someone else in the neighborhood.”
“At the end of the day, it would be great for her to return it. It would be a Christmas miracle,” Magyar said.
“But really, I just don’t want it to happen to anyone else.”
Thank you to everyone for sharing my Grinch video. Here is some additional video footage of her leaving our property and picking up a second wreath which is likely acquired from someone else in the neighborhood. This is in the Yonge and Summerhill area. Please share this with your network someone knows this Grinch!!!!
