Police say man killed in Yonge and Eglinton assault was robbery victim

Toronto police say a 25-year-old man who died after an early-morning assault in the Yonge and Eglinton area was the victim of a “brazen” robbery by three suspects who remain at large.

Emergency crews were called to Yonge Street and Lola Road, south of Eglinton Avenue, around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

When they arrived they found the victim, identified by family as Zack Noureddine, in distress. He was rushed to hospital where he died.

“The deceased was the victim of a robbery. There are three suspects,” said Det. Jeff Allington.

The suspects are described only as males in dark clothing. They fled in a light-coloured four-door sedan.

“I would certainly say (the victim) was targeted in that the people that robbed him choose him over any other number of people walking down the road,” Det. Allington added. “But I don’t think it was something where he was followed and followed for blocks.”

Police are asking residents and businesses in the area with surveillance video to contact them.

Police are also probing a second robbery in the area that took place shortly before the one that claimed Noureddine’s life.

“We believe that they are linked,” said Allington.
