The suspect in a recent fatal hit-and-run crash in the city’s east end has surrendered to police, Const. Clint Stibbe told 680 NEWS.
Saeed Moravvej Torbati, 25, who is from Ottawa, turned himself in on Sunday night. He is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and will appear in court on Monday.
On March 31, around 10 p.m., a pedestrian was struck while she crossed Markham Road at Nashdene Road, south of McNicholl Avenue.
The 56-year-old woman, who has not been identified, later died in hospital.
The driver did stop and police believe he got out of the car before getting back in and driving away.
Police are still looking for the car, a dark-coloured Mercedes bearing the license plate BYVK 272. The car will have damage to the front end, including the grill.
“We are asking anybody if they know where that vehicle is to contact us as soon as possible,” Stibbe told 680 NEWS.
“It is entirely possible that the vehicle is at a body shop somewhere.”
According to police, although the suspect lives in Ottawa, he is in Toronto frequently for business.
