Ford name set to return to Toronto City Hall: report

By News Staff

It appears the Ford name will not quickly fade from the political landscape in Ward 2.

According to the Toronto Star, Doug Ford or Michael Ford are expected to vie for the seat left vacant following the death of Rob Ford back in March.

Toronto council is set to meet on May 3, at which time they will consider either appointing a replacement or holding a by-election. The newspaper says Mayor John Tory favours a city staff report, which recommends a July 25th by-election.

“I would expect that we will have a by-election,” said Tory on Thursday. “Council has to approve this, but I’ll be strongly supportive of a by-election… as opposed to an appointment.”

Michael Ford, who is Rob Ford’s newphew, is currenlty a Toronto District School Board trustee. Doug Ford served as Ward 2 councillor when his brother was mayor from 2010 to 2014.
