Man drowns in Bond Lake in Richmond Hill

York regional police have recovered a man’s body from Bond Lake in Richmond Hill.
Police say the 34-year-old, whose name has not been released, was one of five people who were fishing around 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
One of them went swimming further out into the water and disappeared. His friends called 911 immediately.
Emergency crews began to search the lake but could not find the man.
They later began a recovery operation. At the time, the temperature of the water was 1 C – just above freezing.
The man’s body was found around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police do not believe his death is suspicious.
Clarification: Police initially said the man was 35 years old. He was 34. They also said his body was found late Tuesday night. The body was found Wednesday morning.
