No one was injured in a three-alarm blaze near York University on Wednesday night.
Thick black smoke could be seen billowing in the air in the area of Sentinel and Bowsfield near the school’s Finch and Keele campus. Twenty York Univeristy students were forced out of their homes.
Officials say the fire began on the second floor of one home then spread to the other.
Meanwhile, firefighters had to break out a power saw after flames spread into the roof of a home on Major Street near College and Spadina.
The blaze broke out at the back of the house before spreading to the roof.
Nobody was home at the time but crews shut off gas to the building as a precaution.
The fire was quickly knocked down.
