Four people are dead following a fiery head-on crash in Brampton on Monday night.
Peel police say the collision occurred around 8:45 p.m. in the area of Bovaird Drive and Gillingham Drive, close to Highway 10. By the time emergency crews arrived, both cars were engulfed in flames.
The driver of a 2016 Kia was heading east on Bovaird at the same time the driver of a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am was heading west, police said.
The driver of the Pontiac crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking the Kia.
The 49-year-old driver of the Trans Am was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in that car. He has been identified as Calisto Mendonca of Brampton/
The driver of the Kia, 24-year-old Brian McGinnis of Georgetown, was also killed, as were his two passengers – Lauren Marie Bouchard, 22, and her 16-year-old sister Michelle Bouchard, both of whom were from Brampton.
Police are asking any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
“At this point, Peel regional police are asking for any witnesses to the incident to contact our major collision bureau,” Const. Mark Fischer said.
Police couldn’t say if the victims were coming home from Thanksgiving festivities at the time of the crash.
“Due to the holiday nature, that is a possibility,” said Fischer. “A sad reality to the day.”
