The Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate a serious two-vehicle crash in Brampton.

Peel Police say the incident occurred at Vodden Street and Rutherford Road shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

SIU spokesperson Jason Gennaro says a Peel Regional Police officer attempted a traffic stop at Kennedy Road and Queen Street. The vehicle fled the scene and a short time later, collided with a cargo van in the intersection of Vodden and Rutherford.

The SIU says the 26-year-old driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries while the 26-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

A 61-year-old male and a 58-year-old male in the cargo van were also treated for minor injuries.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
