A 19-year-old Toronto man is dead after going into distress in the water on the southern shores of Lake Simcoe.
Police said a group of men were on the water at Sibbald Point provincial park in Georgina around 1 p.m. on Saturday.
“They were out at a sandy area and as they were turning back to shore, they went through a deeper area of water where one of the men became panicked and went into distress,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt explained.
“The second male went to assist and they both experienced distress and went under water.”
The men were rescued and CPR was performed on them both by several bystanders before paramedics arrived.
The second victim is in stable condition and is expected to be okay.
Schmidt is reminding the public that life jackets should always be worn if you’re on a boat or near the water.
