Woman dead, man charged with murder, in Scarborough stabbing

One man has been charged with murder after a stabbing in Scarborough left one woman dead and sent another to hospital.
Police and paramedics were called to the area of Birchmount Road and Pinegrove Avenue, just north of Danforth Avenue, around 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 10.
They found a 50-year-woman, who told them there was a man inside an apartment building with a knife.
When emergency crews entered the unit, they found a 24-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries. Julia Sokolov was rushed to hospital but died nine days later, on Sept. 19.
The 50-year-old woman suffered minor injuries. She was treated in hospital and released.
Michal Nowaczek-Said, 24, of Toronto, was arrested on Sept. 10. He has been charged with first-degree murder, assault causing bodily harm, and five counts of assaulting a police officer.
