Man dies after hit-and-run near St. Clair and Midland

By News Staff

A 61-year-old man has died in hospital after a hit-and-run in the city’s east end.

It happened on St. Clair Avenue East at Jeanette Street, near Midland Avenue, around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The man was crossing St. Clair when he was hit by a black Chrysler minivan going east.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.

The driver didn’t remain at the scene.

“This black minivan was last seen in the left lane here on St. Clair, struck the pedestrian who was crossing at the crosswalk, the east crosswalk,” Toronto police Sgt. Brett Moore explained.

Police have released security video of the vehicle. They say the passenger-side mirror fell off and was left behind, and there will likely be new damage to the passenger side.

Video shows there were several other drivers in the area who may have seen the incident. Police are asking them to come forward as well as anyone with security or dash-cam footage.
