A 41-year-old mother of three who was killed by an impaired driver following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 404 early Friday morning has been identified.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Jenny Dixon of Newmarket was fatally injured when the car she was driving was rear-ended by another just north of Aurora Road around 2:30 a.m.
“Both vehicles lost control, they entered the ditch, one of them rolled over – ejecting the female driver from that vehicle.”
Schmidt added it does appear Dixon was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver, identified as Shanshan Xia, 37, also of Newmarket, was taken into police custody at the scene. She has been charged with dangerous driving, driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and criminal negligence causing death.
“It’s a heartbreaking thing for us to have to on this Friday morning .. knock on someone’s door and letting them know that their loved one is never coming home because of an impaired driver,” Schmidt said.
A gofundme page has been started in Dixon’s memory to help raise money for her children’s future.
“Jenn spent her entire career making sure people were at peace and taken care of in their end of life,” reads a statement on the page, noting that Dixon was on her way home from a nursing shift at Hill House Hospice at the time of the crash.
“She leaves behind 3 amazing children and a loving husband. We are asking for help with creating the future for her kids she wasn’t able to complete.”
