The provinces Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed following a collision with a car in North York.
The SIU says at around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, police attempted to pull over a motorcycle that was travelling westbound on Highway 401. The motorcyclist stopped on the north shoulder of the highway in the collector lanes just past Leslie Street.
However, as police approached he made a u-turn and went eastbound in the westbound lanes, travelling the wrong-way up the Leslie Street ramp where he collided with another vehicle.
The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
