Two in custody following fight, shooting and crash in North York

Two men are in custody after a complicated series of events involving a shooting, a fight and a crash in North York.

Police say it all began in the area of Finch Avenue and Dufferin Street around 3:30 p.m. when a group of men approached another man sitting in a car in a parking lot and gunshots were exchanged.

The group flees the scene in a car and became involved in a crash a short disatance away in a parking lot. The man who was first approached by the group arrives on scene and more gunfire is exchanged, according to police. A fight then breaks out as officers arrive on the scene.

Police say shell casings and a firearm were seized and two men taken into custody. Const. David Hopkinson tells 680News that “more than 10 shots” were exchanged in the gunfire and it’s incredible that no one was seriously injured or killed.

There is no further information on additional suspects who fled the scene.

Paramedics say one person was taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries, likely sustained when he was hit by a car driven by one of the other suspects. Another person was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, likely sustained in the fight.
