Ford, Tory meet for first time since municipal election

Mayor John Tory and Premier Doug Ford put their differences aside and sat down to talk transit, housing and other issues at Queen’s Park on Thursday.
The face-to-face meeting, the first since the municipal election in October, comes just two days after the mayor and a smaller council took the oath of office at city hall.
Despite the chaos caused by his decision to slash the number of wards in Toronto, Ford promised future harmony between the city and the province.
“We’re going to do the right thing for the people,” he said before the meeting. “As much as sometimes we may agree or disagree, we’re on the same wavelength.”
Tory planned to talk about how the two governments could work together on affordable housing, transit, community safety and revitalizing Toronto’s waterfront.
Afterwards, he called it a good discussion.
The mayor had described his relationship with Ford as a “work in progress” after the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday.
But he added if they can conduct themselves with mutual respect, there’s no reason the relationship can’t be a productive one.
After the meeting, Ford headed to Montreal for the first ministers’ meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
