By News Staff

Former CFL star Chad Owens has been charged with one count of assault, Peel regional police tell CityNews.

Owens was arrested on Monday. The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault aren’t known at this time.

He appeared in court on Tuesday and was released on $5,000 bail.

Owens spent six seasons as a Toronto Argonaut and had stints with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes and Saskatchewan Roughriders.

He was most recently a member of the Tiger-Cats, but was released from the team’s practice roster last October, just two weeks after joining the team.

His next court appearance is scheduled for March 26 in Brampton.
