2 students stabbed outside York Memorial Collegiate Institute

Two male students were rushed to hospital following a stabbing outside the York Memorial Collegiate Institute on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say they were contacted at 3:30 p.m. and responded to reports of a stabbing at the school in the area of Eglinton Avenue and Trethewy Drive.

They say the stabbing was a result of an altercation between about 10 to 15 students after classes ended for the day.

When officers arrived they found two male victims suffering from injuries. Initial reports said they were in life-threatening condition but paramedics later confirmed the injuries were less serious.

Police spokeswoman Katrina Arrogante said once the youths arrived at the hospital, it was determined one was in stable condition while the other had minor injuries.

Both victims are believed to be in their teens and their parents were notified.

She said police do not yet have any suspects and are asking any witnesses or anyone with video of the stabbing to come forward or contact CrimeStoppers anonymously.

Arrogante added some video is already circulating on social media and she asks that anyone with footage reach out to police instead of posting it online.

“We’d like to get that information so that we can determine exactly how this occurrence happened and perhaps put forward in light who the suspects may be,” she said.

A video seen by CityNews shows a brawl in progress between a group of students who stumble out the doors of the school, down the stairs and into the parking lot. The students are seen pushing, grabbing and punching each other and one of them is seen picking up a baseball bat.

The Toronto District School Board says the school was put into lockdown at the end of classes.

Police taped off the school, including the parking lot, for the investigation and officers on scene searched a silver Acura.

The driver and vehicle were allowed to leave around 6 p.m. and the police tape was taken down. It is unclear how the vehicle is connected to the incident.
