Family of missing Vaughan man just wants to know he’s ‘safe and well’

It’s been one week since a 24-year-old man walked out of a Richmond Hill hospital and vanished.

Simi Abrams, of Vaughan, left Mackenzie Health Hospital, located on Major Mackenzie Drive between Yonge and Bathurst streets, around 12:30 p.m. last Thursday.

His family have grown increasingly concerned for his well being over the last week and, during a press conference on Thursday, his father made a plea for Abrams to call home if he can.

“Simi, I want you to know that when you are ready, please call me,” he said.

“I just want to know that you are safe and well.”

Surveillance footage released by police shows Abrams walking out of a store near Major Mackenzie and Keele Street in Vaughan about two hours after he left the hospital, in the clothes he’s likely still wearing. The clothing is described as a dark winter coat, jeans and white toque with a blue stripe.

Police said Abrams made several purchases at a Wal-Mart. His wallet and cellphone were found that same day on a path in a wooded area not far from the store.

“Please know, you are not in trouble,” his father told the media. “We just want to get you back safe and well.”

Police said they have information indicating Abrams doesn’t want to come home.

During the course of the investigation officers have conducted a number of searches for Abrams, including multiple search and rescue units being deployed through a wooded area.

Abrams is described as white, about five feet four inches tall, 140 pounds, with long, curly hair and brown eyes.
