Ransom demand made in Wanzhen Lu kidnapping: York police

By News Staff

York Regional Police have confirmed a ransom demand was made in the kidnapping of 22-year-old Wanzhen Lu from his Markham condo building.

The Chinese student was allegedly taken by four men armed with a taser from the parking garage of his building last Saturday.

Lu was released last Tuesday night in Gravenhurst and was found by a nearby homeowner with minor injuries.

Police would not say how much the ransom was or who received the demand.

One suspect, Abdullahi Adan, 37, of Toronto, surrendered overnight and is facing charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and assault.

Three other suspects are still wanted and police are urging them to turn themselves in. They have yet to be identified.
