Two women have been seriously injured after being hit by their own car in Oakville on Wednesday night.

Halton police were called to the scene on Valleyridge Drive, just south of Dundas Street around 8 p.m.

It’s believed a car was pulling out a parking lot when it got caught on a large curb and became stuck. One of the passengers was getting out, when the vehicle, which was still in reverse, began to move and she was dragged onto the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle also fell out of the vehicle and was also dragged.

The car was left in reverse and ended up reversing onto the sidewalk and came to rest near the front steps of a nearby church.

One of the women, a 92-year-old from Oakville, was taken to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries while the other, an 84-year-old Burlington woman was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Both suffered head injuries.

No one else was injured in the incident.
