Violent night of gunfire sends 1 to hospital in Greektown crash

Flashing blue and red lights flooded the Greektown area of the Danforth once again in a scene eerily reminiscent of that warm Sunday night less than a year ago when a gunman walked the streets, randomly shooting at pedestrians.

Police say around 10:30 p.m. Friday night, they were called to Danforth and Chester avenues following a four-car crash and reports of gunfire in the area.

Investigators say two vehicles were initially involved in a shooting several blocks away at Bloor Street and Castle Frank Road. Several shell casings were found in the area.

Police say one vehicle fled the scene in an unknown direction while the second vehicle fled at a high rate of speed along Bloor onto Danforth Avenue, where it collided with another vehicle and a parked car near Chester Avenue.

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police would not say if the man’s injuries were as a result of the shooting or the crash.

There is still no description of the shooter and/or suspect vehicle from the shooting.

Meantime, police responded to several other shootings in the city overnight.

Officers were called to the Birchmount Road and Lawrence Avenue East area just after 1:30 a.m. following reports a male passenger of a while vehicle allegedly fired shots towards another vehicle. Police say there were no reported injuries in that shooting.

Soon after that, a man walked into a hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say they have yet to confirm the location of where that possible shooting took place.

Approximately a half hour later, police were called to the area of Victoria Park and Surrey avenues after shots rang out following some kind of altercation between two men. No injuries were reported in that incident.
