The first of the TTC’s all-electric buses hit the streets on Monday, being launched on the 35 Jane route.
The zero-emission electric bus was delivered to the TTC in April, but underwent testing over the next few weeks before entering into regular service.
“It is the first of 60 electric buses the TTC will have by the first quarter of 2020, making up one of the largest mini-fleets of electric buses in North America,” the transit agency said in a release.
The e-bus from manufacturer New Flyer has no tailpipe emissions and in Ontario, the electricity used to charge it overnight is nuclear and free of greenhouse gas emissions.
The rollout is part of the TTC’s goal to be 100 per cent emissions free by 2038-2042.
