Father charged in alleged abduction of girl, 2, in Brantford

A 37-year-old man is facing a number of charges in connection with an abduction that led to an Amber Alert being issued early Thursday morning.
Brantford police said a 9-1-1 call for an abduction and an assault was made at a residence near Blackburn Drive and Conklin Road in Brantford just after midnight.
Police said a man broke into the residence through the rear door, confronted the mother and another resident before assaulting and threatening them. He then fled the home with a two-year-old girl and three other people in a station wagon.
Police say they were able to establish communication with the estranged father however he refused to disclose his location or return the child. That’s when Ontario Provincial Police issued an Amber Alert for the two-year-old.
Just after 2 a.m., the station wagon was located during a traffic stop in Hamilton. However, the child and the girl’s father were not in the vehicle. Three individuals were arrested for their involvement in the incident.
Around 3 a.m., the child was found with her estranged father at a townhouse complex on Upper Ottawa Street in Hamilton.
Hamilton police said it took about an hour of “communication” with the man before he surrendered and handed over his daughter.
Shawn Jason McManus is now facing a number of charges including Abduction of Person Under Sixteen and two counts of assault. He is currently being held for a bail hearing.
