Bill Bishop Airport is celebrating a huge milestone this week — it’s 80th anniversary.
First built on the Toronto Island by the Toronto Harbour Commission in 1939, the airport was named after William Avery Bishop, a Canadian flying ace of the World War I.
The first commercial flight landed on Sept. 8 of that year and now it sees more than 2.8-million passengers pass through its gates a year.
To mark the impressive occasion, Ports Toronto has shared a special then and now video.
