A Toronto rap artist is dead after he was shot at a townhouse complex in north Oshawa.

Durham regional police were called to the complex on Chevron Prince Path near Simcoe Street North and Britannia Avenue West just before 3 a.m. on Tuesday following reports of multiple gunshots.

When they arrived, they discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Jahquar Stewart, also known as rapper Bvlly.

The independent artist was building his name in Toronto’s rap scene following the debut of his first single “No Light Bag” in 2018.

He released the full-length album Made in Austria in September.

No arrests have been made and there is no word on suspects.

Police have not confirmed if they are searching for a white vehicle in connection to the shooting but a white burnt out SUV was found around 6:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Bluffers Park in Scarborough. Police say the vehicle is considered suspicious and they are investigating, but it’s too early to say if it is connected to the shooting.

This is Durham region’s seventh homicide of the year.
