A 21-year-old man is dead and another man is in hospital after a double shooting in Regent Park on Wednesday night.
Emergency crews were called to the area of River and Oak streets near Dundas Street East at around 10:30 p.m. for reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds.
Paramedics rushed the two male victims to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.
Ahmed Yakot, 21, of Toronto, died of his injuries in hospital on Thursday.
Police said the other man was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
There were earlier reports that the gunfire may have originated from an elevated position such as a balcony, but police said this was not the case.
Police said the suspect vehicle is a dark-coloured small sedan.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
This is Toronto’s first homicide of the year.
