A sneak peek at this week’s weather

By Adam Stiles

Here is an early heads up at what might be coming your way this week and what the CityNews weather crew is watching out for:

MILD UNTIL MIDWEEK

Now until Wednesday Night

We are going to be in a fairly quiet weather pattern for the next couple of days with milder daytime high temperatures expected. The cloud returns Tuesday, but forecast high temperatures are expected to remain above the freezing mark and morning low temperatures staying above seasonal as well.

MORE SNOW!

Wednesday Night into Thursday morning

Another round of snow looks to be heading our way, just as the snow on the ground finishes melting away. Another potential moderate snowfall is in the forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This would impact the Thursday morning commute most likely. While the timing and track are still up in the air, there will be a chance for some heavier snowfall amounts in the Niagara region that could impact cross-border travel. Snow removal crews should be at the ready.

EVEN COLDER AIR

Friday Into Saturday Morning

If you thought this past weekend was cold … the start to this weekend will be even chillier. We have a legitimate shot at seeing temperatures dropping to -20 C around parts of the GTA, while areas closer to the lake will remain a few degrees above that mark. Friday looks to be the coldest daytime with temperatures staying in the minus double digits all day, which hasn’t happened this winter yet. Our coldest daytime high at Pearson Airport (YYZ) has been -8 C so far this winter. Friday looks to be colder than that.

MILDER FAMILY DAY

Family Day Monday

After the chance of seeing some of the coldest air of the year by the end of this week, temperatures are set to bounce back to where they have been resting comfortably for what seems like the bulk of the winter season (around 0°C to +2°C). After a few flurries over the weekend, family day looks like an good travel day around most of southern Ontario at this point. There are a few forecast model solutions hinting at a system late in the weekend that could change that, so check back later in the week with latest and most up to date forecast from our team here.
