The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing a crash involving a Toronto police cruiser and another vehicle that sent three people, including two officers, to hospital with injuries.

In a release the SIU said the cruiser was travelling westbound on Sheppard Avenue West at around 11:30 a.m. when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle at the Allen Road intersection.

Two officers were in the vehicle at the time and both were hospitalized. The extent of their injuries is not currently known.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 63-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

Police closed the intersection and advised drivers to find alternate routes.

The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
