TORONTO — Production is set to get underway next month on a new season of canine-cop TV series “Hudson & Rex,” with a number of COVID-19 precautions in place.
But producers say they’re willing to make a few exceptions when it comes to their celebrity pooch.
They say cuddles and kisses between lead actor John Reardon and his German shepherd co-star Diesel vom Burgimwald will still be part of the scripts on the Newfoundland-shot detective series.
For everyone else, Shaftesbury chief executive Christina Jennings says physical distancing measures will be strictly enforced.
“Hudson & Rex” marks one of the first Canadian TV productions to resume in the midst of the pandemic, and Jennings acknowledges it’s a work in progress.
The first four episodes of Season 3 will forgo shooting at private locations, and instead film scenes largely in open outdoor spaces, or at the show’s St. John’s studio, with cast and crew isolated in small groups.
