Sherway Gardens confirms COVID-19 cases at The Keg, JOEY restaurants

By News Staff

Just one day after Yorkdale’s JOEY restaurant reported their own case of COVID-19, Sherway Gardens mall in Etobicoke confirmed two positive cases at each of their JOEY and The Keg Steakhouse locations.

“The affected clients acted quickly and responsibly by immediately contacting Cadillac Fairview and Public Health,” a spokesperson for Cadillac Fairview, the mall owner, said.

“The clients and CF have taken necessary actions as advised by Public Health by arranging a deep-clean of the client space, which has already been conducted.”

In an email to 680News, a spokesperson for JOEY says one employee tested positive for the virus, calling it an isolated incident.

“The individual’s last shift was on Monday, August 24, 2020. The restaurant was voluntarily closed to allow for a deep sanitation of the property by a third-party cleaning firm. The health and safety of our guests and our staff is our primary concern. We continue to follow strict health and safety protocols and all team members are being closely monitored.”

The mall says JOEY remains open and The Keg resuming operations at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

“CF will continue our extra cleaning of all elevator banks, food court tables, common area seating, doors and stair railings, and all other high-touch points in the complex. At this point in time Public Health has advised that no further action is required and the building can remain open for business.”

On Monday, Yorkdale Mall confirmed an employee at JOEY restaurant had tested positive for the virus. They called the case an “off-site” incident.

The Foot Locker store at Yorkdale is also temporarily closed after additional employees tested positive for COVID-19.

We are taking decisive actions across the business to help protect our team members and are working with local, government and health officials to assess when we will reopen and safely bring our team members back to work,” a spokesperson said on Monday.

The province is reporting 112 new COVID-19 cases today.
