Toronto police investigating after dangerous driving stunt shared online

Toronto police are investigating after a video shows a dangerous driving stunt in a 10 minute compilation video recently shared to YouTube and Facebook.

You’ll see multiple drivers performing illegal and dangerous driving acts, surrounded by large crowds.

Residents near Laird Drive and McRae Drive have complained about the loud noises, and that intersections have been taken over by drivers and large crowds, blocking traffic.

Police say when they were called Saturday morning to reports of a large number of vehicles performing donuts in front of a crowd near Meadowvale and Zoo Road.

Police Spokesperson Alex Li said officers were put in harms way when they were swarmed by people, “jumping onto police cars, damaging our police vehicles.”

“It’s a very dangerous act, you’re putting a lot of people at risk, the general public, the drivers themselves that are there, people that are there to even just spectate,” Li said, “the higher the speed that you’re driving the vehicle at, the less of a chance of a reaction time that you’ve got.”

Li said the crowd eventually dispersed and left, but that it’s unusual they didn’t do that from the start when officers showed up.

Police say the lighter traffic due to the pandemic has brought out more of this behaviour, with double the amount of reports compared to this time last year.

No arrests have been made, but police say the investigation is ongoing and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
