Look: Toronto Maple Leafs, NHL teams release 2021 retro jerseys

By Lucas Casaletto

Paying homage to the late 60s and early 70s, the Toronto Maple Leafs have released their 2021 ‘Reverse Retro‘ jerseys for the upcoming season, whenever that may be.

In collaboration with Adidas, the Maple Leafs joined all 31 NHL teams to create a retro jersey that would make Leafs legends including Dave Keon, Paul Henderson, George Armstrong and Johnny Bower proud.

This particular Leafs logo goes back to 1967, which, as any Toronto sports fan can tell you, was when the blue and white last won the Stanley Cup. It was dark times after that period, though. From 1968 to 1970, the Maple Leafs qualified for the playoffs only once seeing many veteran players shipped out or selected as part of the NHL expansion draft.

“The Maple Leafs jersey straddles two seasons with the logo from the 1969-70 jersey and the striping from the 1970-71 jersey. The gray is a nod to the silver that was featured in the Maple Leafs’ Centennial Classic jersey in 2017,” the league said.

The NHL says the 31 new designs will be worn for an undetermined number of games in ‘20-21.

The 31 sweaters go on sale in stores and online in the first week of Dec., retailing for $200 to $250 in Canada.
