SIU investigating death of man, 18, in Mississauga

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 18-year-old man in Mississauga after his health deteriorated while under police guard.

On Feb. 9 at around 6:30 p.m., the SIU said Peel police were called to a home by a woman who had concerns about a family member. Before the officers arrived, the 18-year-old man fled.

He was located shortly after and was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. The man was transported to hospital where he remained under police guard.

Around midnight, his health deteriorated and he was put in Intensive Care. The man passed away on Friday.

There have been no further details released about the cause of death.

Four investigators have been assigned to the case and two subject officials and three witness officials have been designated.

The post-mortem is scheduled for Saturday morning.
