A winter travel advisory remains in place for Toronto and parts of the GTA as the area continues to get blanketed with snow.

It’s the second big snowfall of the week for the area, which saw school closures and school bus cancellations on Monday.

Environment Canada issued the advisory on Thursday, saying around five to 15 centimetres of snow are expected to fall in the area by Friday morning.

The GTA saw steady snow fall all through Thursday evening and overnight.

A snow squall warning was issued just before 8:30 p.m. for Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, and Brampton. It stayed in place for about two hours. Oakville and Burlington saw dangerous white out conditions during that time.

The warning ended for all regions around 10:30 p.m. but lighter snow continued to fall.

Drivers should give themselves some extra time if they’re heading out Friday morning, as the weather could impact traffic.

Snow is expected to continue throughout the morning and then slowly taper off in the afternoon and possible into the evening.

Areas have been impacted the most by snowfall are downtown Toronto, southern Etobicoke, Mississauga, Milton, and Oakville.

That includes sections of the following highways:

    • Highway 403
    • Highway 407
    • Highway 427
    • Queen Elizabeth Way
    • Gardiner Expressway

Lake-effect snow is expected to boost snow totals in the west end of the GTA, with some parts seeing as much as 20 centimetres.
