Police have confirmed the identity of Toronto’s 12th homicide of 2021 as Amanda Killeen.
The 32-year-old single mother of three was initially the subject of a police investigation into a missing person last month that ultimately led to a fatal police shooting.
Police were first called to an apartment building on George Street, near Dundas Street East, in the early morning hours of Feb. 23 as part of an investigating into a missing woman. Two officers entered an apartment unit on the third floor and shortly thereafter got into an altercation with a 45-year-old man. Both officers shot at the man with one of the bullets striking him in the chest.
Paramedics rushed the victim to hospital where he died of his injuries. He has been identified as 45-year-old Gedi Ali Gedi.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has taken over that portion of the case.
Human remains, which have now been positively identified as Killeen, were found the next day. Orson York, 59, of Toronto, has been charged with indignity to a human body and accessory after the fact to murder in connection to the investigation.
Killeen was last seen Feb. 19 in the area of Dundas Street West and Scarlett Road and homicide investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen her have more information.
