A 20-year-old Toronto man is facing murder charges in connection with a double shooting in the Summerhill area in January.
Emergency crews were called to a laneway next to a row of townhouses near Mathersfield Drive around 8 p.m. on Jan. 29, after several callers reported hearing gunshots.
When police arrived they found 23-year-old Sirac Tesfay suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 27-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was also found suffering multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses reported seeing a smaller light-coloured, possibly grey or silver, four-door sedan with dark-tinted windows flee the area at a high rate of speed.
On Tuesday, Henok Mesgena was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
There has been no word on a possible motive for the shooting or if the suspect knew either victim.
