Toronto man charged with murder after victim allegedly beaten with a bat

Toronto police have charged a man with murder for allegedly beating another man to death with a baseball bat.

Investigators say on Sunday, a man was returning to his apartment in the Danforth and Brimley roads area around 9:30 p.m.

He was then allegedly assaulted by a man known to him who was armed with a baseball bat. The victim, identified as Vijanant Persaud, 37, of Toronto, died the next day.

The suspect, Martin Harris, 53, of Toronto has been with second-degree murder.

He appeared in court on Thursday and will next appear on July 15.

This is Toronto’s 29th homicide of the year.
