No injuries after fire on Pacific Mall roof

Markham Fire is investigating after a fire broke out on the roof of Pacific Mall on Monday afternoon.

They received a call around 10:15 a.m. and crews were able to access the roof and put out the fire quickly.

The fire occurred in a restaurant kitchen HVAC unit on the roof, but there is no word on whether the restaurant was on the first or second floor of the mall.

Markham Fire said in a tweet that crews could see heavy black smoke while responding and a video sent in by 680 NEWS viewer shows thick smoke billowing from the roof.

Smoke also reached the retail area of the mall and ventilation is ongoing.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

The mall will be closed for the rest of the day.
