Ontario is reporting 304 new COVID-19 cases and four additional deaths on Wednesday.

It is the fewest new daily infections the province has seen since Aug. 5.

There have now been fewer than 500 cases for 10 straight days as the rolling seven-day average remains flat at 407 infections. The seven-day average is down from 500 cases one week ago. The active case count in the province has reached the lowest point since Aug. 14.

Of the new infections, 198 are in individuals who are unvaccinated, 10 are in individuals who are partially vaccinated, and 12 are in those with unknown vaccination status.

Locally, there are 46 new cases in Toronto, 22 in York, 15 in Durham and 13 in Peel Region.

There were 31,569 tests completed in the last 24-hour period for a test positivity rate of 1.3 per cent. It is also the lowest positivity rate the province has seen since Aug. 5.

There are now 159 people in the ICU due to COVID-19 complications and 113 of them are breathing on ventilators.

There are another 107 infections reported among students and staff in schools across Ontario.

The province administered another 25,284 vaccine doses. There are now 87.6 per cent of Ontarians 12 and older who have received at least one dose, 83.4 per cent are now fully vaccinated.

Ontario’s COVID-19 science advisory table informed Premier Doug Ford on Tuesday that making vaccinations mandatory for all healthcare workers can enhance safety, reduce the risk of staffing disruptions, and protect people working to treat others.

In the letter published to Ford, the science group says requiring hospital workers to be vaccinated is an evidence-based policy that protects Ontarians.

All Ontarians vaccinated against COVID-19 can download their enhanced COVID-19 vaccine certificates.

The provincial government has said the documents, which include a scannable QR code, will allow for faster entry into settings that require proof of vaccination.
