Scarborough school closed for day as police negotiate with man barricaded in nearby home

A school in Scarborough has been closed for the day while police continue to negotiate with a man who has barricaded himself inside a nearby home.
St. Maria Goretti Catholic School, near Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue, was in a hold and secure as a precautionary measure Friday morning. In an update Friday afternoon, police say the school has now been closed for the day.
Officers were called to the residence just before 10 p.m. on Thursday.
They say a man made threats to people inside a home — the occupants then left the home and the man barricaded himself inside.
Police believe he may be armed.
The TTC has sent shelter buses to the scene for those who are displaced.
Roads are closed in the area.
