Some Bell customers wake up to wrong time on their smartphones

It is not just a candy hangover from Halloween making some people late to work, school and appointments on Monday morning.

Bell has apologized after several Bell and Virgin Mobile customers woke up to the wrong time on their smartphones. Some people also said the clocks in their cars went back an hour automatically.

The CityNews 680 newsroom received several calls with people saying the time on their phones did just that.

It appears the time change error on the smartphones has something to do with the automatic time zone setting. One person on Twitter suggested turning off the automatic setting for the time and date, which should put it back to normal.

Bell said there was an issue with its system that caused the change, which has now been resolved.

“Some clients may have experienced an incorrect time change on their phone this morning. Our teams are investigating the situation in order to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the company said in a tweet.

Bell spokeswoman Caroline Audet says the company thanks everyone for their patience.

Clocks are supposed to “fall back” at 2 a.m. ET on Nov. 7, bringing an end to Daylight Saving Time and ushering in Standard Time.
