Ontario reported a slight dip in new COVID-19 cases Monday after seeing a surge over the weekend.

Provincial officials confirmed 480 new infections on Monday. There were 636 new infections on Sunday – the highest single-day total since October 9.

Another two people have died as a result of the virus. However, the province said those two deaths occurred within the last month.

According to provincial data, the majority of the 480 new cases were from Toronto and Waterloo.

Of the new infections, 244 were among those who are not vaccinated, 32 had an unknown vaccination status, 191 were fully vaccinated and only 13 had one dose. Despite a surge at the end of last week, Monday’s numbers remain steady week-over-week.

The current seven-day average sits at 468, compared to 362 last Monday.

The province says there are 127 people in Ontario ICU units with COVID-19-related critical illness and 74 are on a ventilator.

Nearly 23,000 tests were completed over the past 24 hours with 2.2 per cent coming back positive.

As for vaccinations, 88.5 per cent of Ontarians over the age of 12 has had at least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, while 85.1 per cent have had two doses. More than 17,000 doses were administered on Sunday.
