More than 21K speeding tickets handed out in September by enforcement cameras

Toronto’s 50 Automated Speed Enforcement cameras issued more than 21,000 tickets in the month of September – an increase over the previous two months in which more than 18,000 tickets were printed.

The City says 13 per cent of all tickets issued – or 2,664 – came from the device located on Victoria Park Avenue near Tiago Avenue.

City officials put the higher number down to an increase in traffic volumes across the city as students returned to in-class learning.

According to data released Friday, there were 926 repeat offenders in September with the two most frequent each receiving five tickets for speeding on Bamburgh Circle and Military Trail in Scarborough.

Tickets issued by the speed enforcement cameras do not incur any demerit points and do not affect a person’s driving record.

To date, the highest speed detected by the cameras was 141 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Martin Grove Road, north of Garfella Drive. The device at that location was also responsible for capturing 33 speeders, the highest number since enforcement began in July 2020.

The Automated Speed Enforcement devices have now been relocated to further assist in reducing speeds in areas of concern across the city, primarily near schools in Community Safety Zones.
