Limited doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine available in Ontario

A limited supply of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be available in Ontario, starting Thursday.

The province made the announcement in a release about expanded eligibility for booster COVID-19 shots and says it is part of the ongoing effort to vaccinate as many people as possible.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be made available to those who are 18 and older and have an allergy or other contraindication to an mRNA vaccine. Those who have not been vaccinated as yet can also request the shot by contacting their public health unit.

The single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine has so far been unavailable to Ontarians, although it has been approved by Health Canada since early March.

Last month, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said supply of the vaccine had been secured following requests from B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

In August, Canada donated 10 million doses of the Janssen vaccine to low and middle-income countries through the COVAX vaccine-sharing alliance.
