Peel rescinds workplace Section 22 order to prioritize vaccinations, outbreaks

Peel Public Health has rescinded a Section 22 order for workplaces in order to prioritize resources to support COVID-19 vaccinations and the management of cases, contacts and outbreaks in high-risk settings.

The Section 22 order, introduced on June 3 and updated on Oct. 14, required businesses to report all COVID-19 cases or outbreaks related to workplaces and allow public health to issue a closure if necessary.

In a statement from Peel, it said the Chief Medical Officer of Health has directed all public health units to urgently prioritize local resources to allow residents to receive their booster shots and manage cases and outbreaks.

Public health encouraged workplaces to continue adhering to provincial regulations and guidance. Information can be found on their website as well about managing COVID-19 cases among staff.

Peel reported 1,113 COVID-19 cases on Friday as the province recorded nearly 10,000.

The province, in partnership with Switch Health, opened up a vaccination centre at the International Centre in Mississauga Thursday that will be able administer around 19,000 doses per day at full capacity.
