Messy, wet weather hits Toronto and GTA to start the week

By Lucas Casaletto

Special weather statements have been issued across a good portion of southern Ontario as Toronto braces for a post-Christmas snowfall.

Snow will impact the Monday morning commute as 2-5 cm could fall in Toronto by Tuesday.

“This snow will continue for a few hours with up to 5 cm of accumulation possible before transitioning to freezing rain or freezing drizzle in the afternoon,” Environment Canada and Climate Change said.

“Precipitation is expected to transition to drizzle or end in the evening or overnight.”

Special weather statements remain in place for Halton-Peel — covering Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington and Oakville, among other cities — and York-Durham/Hamilton, as well. These areas could also see as much as 5 cm of snow by Tuesday’s end.

Beyond Monday, another low-pressure system will arrive tomorrow night in southern Ontario with another round of snow, though accumulations are likely to hover in the 1 cm range.
