Ontario’s police watchdog has laid charges against a constable in Hanover, Ont., following an alleged sexual assault.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says that an investigation was launched on Sept. 16, 2021, following an alleged sexual assault complaint in 2017.
As a result, the SIU says Hanover Police Const. Ryan Cabral has been charged with multiple offences, including one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual exploitation, and one count of breach of trust by an official.
Cabral will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 9.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
