Province reporting 59 deaths related to COVID-19, number of hospitalizations down

The province is reporting 59 COVID-related deaths on Saturday, which it says occurred over the past 30 days. This as hospitalizations across Ontario continue to see the number of patients admitted go down.

Ontario is seeing a decline in hospitalizations compared to Friday with 2,493 patients admitted. However, not all hospitals report their data on weekends.

The number of patients reported in hospital on Saturday is 141 fewer compared to the day before, and is the lowest it’s been since January 10th of this year.

Ontario’s health minister says 54 per cent were admitted to hospital for COVID-19, and the remainder were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for the virus after.

Ontario is also reporting 3,204 new cases of the virus — but health officials warn the number of infections is much higher due to changes to the province’s testing policy. The province is also reporting 4,642 resolved cases.

In the past 24 hours, 22,527 tests have been completed with a positivity rate of 12.1 per cent.

Elliott says to date, 92 per cent of Ontarians 12 years of age and older have one dose of a vaccine, and 89.4 per cent are double dosed.

According to the province, in the past day 66,029 vaccines doses have been administered.

In Ontario, 30,949,011 vaccine doses have been administered to date.
