A TTC worker suffered serious injuries after he was stabbed while aboard a subway train on Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to a call at Dupont Station, located at Spadina Road and Dupont Street, after getting reports of the stabbing.
Police say a 46-year-old man was stabbed twice in the back after becoming involved in an altercation on the train while on his way to work.
He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now expected to survive.
Police arrested 30-year-old Murice Stephens of Toronto, who faces multiple charges including assault, assault causing bodily harm, and assault with a weapon.
He will appear in court on Thursday.
The TTC confirmed the victim was one of their employees but was not on duty at the time.
TTC spokesperson Stuart Green says a suspect was apprehended by Special Constables and turned over to police, who say a 30-year-old man is now facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
“I’m pleased to let everyone know that he’s in good spirits, all things considered, and is now resting at home,” said TTC CEO Rick Leary.
“This incident is a sad reminder of the challenges our employees face every day,” said Leary. “I know today’s event is upsetting and it may be hard to process. I think of the TTC has a big family and as a family we are always there for each other.”
Toronto Mayor John Tory also extended his well-wishes while calling violence against transit employees “totally unacceptable.”
